Map of the UNESCO Dyfi Biosphere and Wind Farms  map top

This a special version of our map showing the UNESCO Dyfi Biosphere along with the wind farms in the area.

The Dyfi Biosphere is the only UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in Wales, and one of seven thoughout the UK. It recognises the natural and cultural importance of the area. It includes a number of significant wildlife and natural landscape reserves.

The concept of the Biosphere is not incompatible with production of renewable energy, quite the opposite. However, it does raise the question of whether the very large and commercially biased proposed developments are appropriate or is the risk of resulting environmental damage unacceptable. The Afon Dyfi, its estuary, other rivers and adjoining sea are already suffering from pollution, which may be compounded by toxic run-off caused by large scale construction activity with the catchment zone.

There are no included details for turbine locations, solar or proposed transmision lines with pylons or wood poles. For this type of information please see our main map.

Zoom and pan to change view. Options may be selected from the map layer menu (top-right icon).

About this map:

Information is copied from our main map. Representation is best effort and based on available information. Area boundaries for wind farms are simplified or approximated only and are not in any way definitive. They are also likely to change in future.

Wind farm circle markers indicate locations where not much else is known. Speculative wind farms, shown in pink, are known from minimal information, often by company name only and located with reasonable probability derived from that name (optional display in the layer menu).

The base map can be changed between Open Street Map, Open Topographical Map or Satellite - select from the layers menu at the top-right corner.

Information presented on this map is not guaranteed as acurate, but the features are intended to give a reasonably good idea of location. With that in mind, any part of the map may be reproduced for non-commercial purposes. This map is produced by Deeproot Software using the open source Leaflet JS library.
