Based on our standard map of wind farms and pylon lines, there are a number of other special versions that illustrate specific topics.
They have additional overlay layers showing features that may be impacted by energy development proposals or should be taken into consideration for the planning process. Some map versions contain considerable extra volumes of coordinate data and may be slow to load.
Shows areas that have been designated with the planning presumption in favour of large scale wind energy development.
Show registered common land as recorded by NRW. Where these areas fall within a planned proposal there is a prescribed legal process that must be followed. If public access will be prevented, that portion of land will need to be de-registered although not neccessarily the whole area.
Does not include other types of common land such as open country and dedicated forests.
Note: This is work-in-progress and not all areas are shown.
The whole of Wales is designated as Low Flying Area 7 (LFA7). However, mid Wales has a Tactical Training Zone (LFA7T) where flight altitudes may be lower and military exercises more likely. In addition there are specific CAA Low Flying Danger Areas, notably over the Irish Sea but extending into west and mid Wales.
Shows the location of Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI's) using the WMS data feed from DataMapWales.
Shows the main areas of red squirrel population concentration according to NRW.
The Heart of Wales Railway is internationally known as one of the best rail journeys in the world. Much of it runs very close to large energy development proposals. The railway line can be shown as a map layer option on the custom Re-Think map page.
Wales has many defined long distance trails for walking, cycling and some for horse riding. Proposed energy developments often impact these public trails, either directly of indirectly. This map shows a number of named trails, selectable from the map layer menu.
Not all long distance trails are included, such as the coastal paths which are mostly some distance away from the large proposals. The Heart of Wales Railway is also available on this map, being related to the Heart of Wales Trail.
The Dyfi Biosphere is the only UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in Wales. A number of large energy development proposals fall entirely or partly within its boundary.

Shows all the sites with a CADW identifier in the part of Carmarthenshire close to the proposed Green GEN Cymru's electricity transmision lines.
Note: Contains a large amount of data and may be slow to load.
