Don't Break The Heart of Wales
Caru Teifi is a community action group based in Cellan and Llanfair Clydogau in Ceredigion. We formed in March 2024 to oppose Green GEN Cymru’s proposed Towy–Teifi pylon line, Bute Energy’s Lan Fawr Energy Park and other large wind farms threatening our communities and the Cambrian Mountains.
Caru Teifi is currently less active, and CPRW Ceredigion branch has taken up the campaigning work while the group rebuilds. This website will continue to keep local people informed.
The concerns that brought us together remain. We care about this place and want to protect it for future generations.
We recognise the need to tackle climate change. But we do not accept that this makes the industrialisation of our countryside necessary or acceptable.
Our uplands are living landscapes. They support farming, tourism and wildlife, store carbon and water, and hold generations of Welsh history, language and culture.
Huge turbines, pylons, substations and construction roads would change these places profoundly. Our concerns reach beyond the view: they include damage to peat, risks to rivers and water supplies, disturbance of pollution from historic metal mines, loss of wildlife habitat and disruption to everyday life.
These landscapes deserve protection. Our communities deserve a say.
Several large wind farms are proposed across the uplands around our communities: Lan Fawr, Waun Maenllwyd, Bryn Cadwgan and Nant y Maen. Alongside these is Green GEN Cymru’s proposed Towy–Teifi pylon line.
The proposals would bring turbines, access roads, substations and electricity connections into and across this landscape. Each raises concerns in its own right. Together, they raise much bigger questions about the future of our area.
Their effects would cross development boundaries, affecting shared river catchments, wildlife habitats, historic landscapes, roads and neighbouring communities.
What would all these developments mean together—for our rivers, wildlife, homes and countryside?
Who is looking at the whole picture?
These questions need clear answers.
We believe Wales can contribute to tackling climate change without sacrificing the Cambrian Mountains.
Energy planning should properly examine alternative locations and approaches, protect environmentally sensitive places and account for the roads, substations and electricity connections that developments would require.
Before changing our uplands, government should understand the value they already provide through water storage, flood protection, carbon storage, biodiversity and clean water.
Our countryside should not be treated as empty space waiting to be developed.
